It's September! That means back to school for some of you, back to school for your kids, and maybe even back to school for you and your kids! So how do you radiate a peaceful, relaxed vibe when life picks up the pace and gets crazy busy (even when it's not back to school season)?
Hint: When you are centered by taking care of yourself you can respond to life better, no matter what is happening.
Here are 3 steps to practice everyday:
1. Remember to start with YOU.
It might feel counterintuitive to put yourself at the top of your list, but it's essential to take care of yourself with healthy food that tastes good, enough sleep to feel rested and activities you enjoy doing. Your body, mind and spirit make up the machine that carries you through life and it's vital that you care for all components of that machine to keep it in top form. Think about what makes You feel Good and make a list. You might make a new recipe for yourself and let the kids eat mac and cheese, take an epsom salt bath with lavender or clary sage essential oils, and register for the class you've been wanting to take.
2. Put "Self Care" on your calendar: DAILY!
Research has shown that when we take time to write something down, whether it's our goals, aspirations, or our own doctor appointment, we are more likely to follow through with it. Once a week, sit down with your calendar and block out an hour a day, each day of the week for your personal Self Care time. Choose an hour that actually works for you without disruption (mine is 6- 7 AM). And then write down what that Self Care activity will be. Maybe you will exercise for an hour, maybe take a bath and read a book for 30-minutes with another 30-minutes of belly dancing! Maybe you will journal about the direction you want your life to be moving in. Maybe yoga and meditation. Do not waste that hour on social media!
3. Link your "Self Care" activity to something you already do habitually.
Linking your Self Care to something you already do will help anchor it into your day. For example, let's say you want to add a 30-minute walk into your day- link that to something you already do habitually, such as brushing your teeth after breakfast, or dropping your kids at school, or taking your lunch break at work. You will brush your teeth and then get your shoes on and walk. Or you will drop your kids off and then take a walk in the park. Or you will eat lunch and then head out for your walk. Eventually brushing teeth will signify walk, school drop off will signify walk and lunchtime will signify walk. Before you know it, this Self Care: Walk will be a natural part of your schedule.
In the comments below, please let me know how you put yourself on the list and practice daily Self Care to radiate a peaceful vibe no matter what life throws at you! And if this is new for you, you can add some things you like doing in the comments below to start your list. I love hearing from you and am truly inspired by you! XO Elyce
