How many of you have a space in your home where you can pause, unplug and connect with your inner values? A space dedicated to cultivating your best self? Somewhere you can recharge your mind, body and spirit?
In the mindfulness community this space is often called a sacred space. It's a space, even a small corner within your space, separated away from the bustle of your home life, that you return to again and again to be reminded of what matters to you and who you aspire to be.
For anything to take root in your life it needs a container. If you want a regular yoga practice, you need a space to roll out your mat and practice. To cultivate your meditation practice, you need a spot sit and meditate in. To write your memoirs, you need a place to write in.
Some people have an alter with a candle, some have a whole room, some have a special cushion in the corner of the living room. Your sacred space might be on your closet floor, or it might be a particular chair in your home. Maybe there's an area of your backyard where you do yoga or sit to meditate. It does not have to be "perfect", it just has to be a space, just for you, where you can cultivate the practice of becoming the person you aspire to be.
When you visit and revisit this space with intention you will soon feel the power building in this dedicated space. Yoga, meditation, journaling, being creative, dancing, praying, checking in with your dreams, or resting and being alone (without your phone) might be your sacred practice. Today it's not so much what you do in your space, but that you create a space to infuse with intentional energy over time. This energy will give back to you whenever you drop in and even when you are away and you simply think about it.
Today, look around your home and designate a sacred space for yourself.
